Pablo Acuña es Licenciado en Letras (2004) y Licenciado en Filosofía (2006) por la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, MSc en Historia y Filosofía de las Ciencias (2012), y Doctor en Historia y Filosofía de las Ciencias (2014) por la Universidad de Utrecht, Holanda. Su tesis de MSc obtuvo el segundo lugar en el concurso internacional para tesis de postgrado en filosofía de la física Hanneke Janssen Memorial Prize 2013, y el premio a la mejor tesis de postgrado de la Universidad de Utrecht en el año académico 2012-2013.
Sus áreas de investigación y especialización principal son la filosofía de la física y la filosofía general de las ciencias, y también trabaja en filosofía analítica y filosofía moderna. Ha publicado artículos en revistas internacionales como Studies in History and Philosophy of Modern Physics, European Journal for the Philosophy of Science, International Studies in the Philosophy of Science, Synthese, e International Journal of Philosophical Studies; y dos capítulos de libros publicados por Springer. Actualmente es investigador responsable del Proyecto FONDECYT de Iniciación nº 1170608 (2018-2020) Scientific Explanation and Scientific Understanding: a plea for a pluralist view.
En 2017 fue invitado como Visiting Fellow en el Center for Philosophy of Science de la Universidad de Pittsburgh, y en ese mismo año fue profesor invitado del Magíster en Filosofía de la Universidad de Chile. Es miembro fundador de la Sociedad Chilena de Filosofía de las Ciencias (www.sochific.cl/), y es organizador de las Chilean Conferences on the Philosophy of Physics (https://philphyschile.wixsite.com/2018).
Pablo Acuña fue profesor en el Instituto de Filosofía PUCV entre 2015 y 2018, y se desempeña como Profesor Asistente en el Instituto de Filosofía PUC desde marzo de 2019.
